NeuroGuide Introduction

LORETA Z-Score Neurofeedback

NeuroGuide BrainSurfer

State-of-the-art neurofeedback for behavioral health

At Peak Performance Neurofeedback, we provide state-of-the-art QEEG guided 19-channel LORETA z-score neurofeedback for Northern Virginia. Few other neurofeedback providers can make this claim. 'QEEG guided' means that all evaluations begin with a quantitative (computer digitized) EEG (electroencephalogram) with age-matched normative data base comparisons. Two and 3-dimensional brain maps are generated that reveal areas of dysregulation within networks or between major networks of the brain. The QEEG findings guide the individualized treatment protocol so that only those areas of the brain that play a role in the patient's symptoms are targeted for treatment. In addition, LORETA (low resolution electromagnetic tomography) enables neurofeedback training in brain regions below the scalp surface and out of reach by other neurofeedback approaches. Since all behavioral health conditions involve networks in the brain, LORETA neurofeedback has the potential to help a wide variety of disorders. A few of the conditions currently treated with success are ADD, ADHD, ASD, Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, Learning Disorders, Memory or other cognitive problems such as mTBI (mild traumatic brain injury), and addictions.

Treatment occurs over approximately 20 sessions (two or three times weekly) by providing a reward (a desired video plays) whenever selected EEG parameters move in the direction of increased stability, efficiency, and improved regulation. The sophisticated software makes thousands of calculations per second and directs the video to 'play' or the screen to 'brighten' whenever the patient's brain wave activity moves toward normality as measured by instantaneous comparisons to an age-matched reference data base. With continued training, the brain begins to 'figure it out' and learns to produce normal brain wave patterns outside of the training session. Research indicates that these gains are maintained long after the training is completed although some 'refresher' sessions may be necessary on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Patients who choose Peak Performance Neurofeedback can expect individualized treatment plans and neurofeedback training protocols based on quantifiable, objective data from state-of-the-art software called NeuroGuide (see www.appliedneuroscience.com for more information). NeuroGuide is the first neurofeedback software to integrate standardized training via z-scores and LORETA technology. This takes all of the 'guesswork' out of developing individualized treatment plans and targets only those brain regions or networks that are dysregulated.
